The MAGNET Engine - Mississippi Alabama Georgia Network for Electric Vehicle Technologies - is committed to advancing research and commercialization of electric vehicle (EV) technology solutions for the United States through multi-state collaboration driven by The University of Alabama, Mississippi State University, and University of Georgia. Through this collective approach, activities that advance transportation electrification, enhance grid stability, increase charging capability, and establish and grow a domestic battery industry can be realized. The strong automotive sector combined with state commitments, a vast workforce potential, and substantial mining capacity of the necessary materials for batteries and other critical EV systems, make the Mississippi – Alabama - Georgia region an ideal home for an engine devoted to the EV supply chain ecosystem.
Workforce development is MAGNET’s lynchpin. It is a stronger attractant for most companies than site availability. Nationwide, the EV industry is forecast to create 150,000 new jobs by 2030. As workforce development is successful, a virtuous cycle is created, ensuring sustainability of our existing robust industry.
THIS IS OUR CHALLENGE. Join us Thursday afternoon during SAC for a MAGNET Town Hall to discuss the emerging EV market and voice your opinions on how - together - we can succeed.
MAGNET: Advancing a Domestic Value Chain for Electric Vehicles (AL, MS, GA) is an NSF Engines Development Award #2302945. Learn more at magnet.ua.edu.
